The Rangers have come and gone and they do not play the Mets again this season. The Mets split a doubleheader and they took two of three from the Rangers. That is good. I was also glad to learn that apparently doubleheaders still exist. I am not referring to this Day-Night garbage but rather where you pay for one game and get to see two, back-to-back, they way it is supposed to be.
I also have some thoughts on the doubleheader such as, it was good to see Wagner come in and work a 1-2-3 ninth inning. It was also great to see the bullpen, after being battered around in game one, come back and do well in game two. Pedro pitched well and credit to Robinson Cancel for coming up big as a pinch hitter. It was also good to see them not give up in game one and try to comeback. They showed some fight.
On the downside, first they are leaving way too many men on base. They need to find a way to fix that. I also would have liked them to get to Gabbard. If my memory is correct based on what Met announcers said during the game yesterday, the Rangers average eight runs a game when Gabbard starts yet he only has one victory. I would have loved to have seen the Mets hit him hard.
Still, the bottom line is they won. Now lets see what happens when we head out west again.
